I live in Dallas, Texas. I got a speeding ticket. The officer clocked me doing 49 in a 35. I was not doing 49. I was admittedly doing around 40 because I had just looked down and took my foot off the gas pedal when the officer stood in the middle of the road to pull me over. Initially he issued a ticket with the wrong last name on it. I went to the municipal court to dispute the ticket. The clerk told me to see the prosecuter because she wasn't even supposed to issue me a court date because of privacy issues since the last name was wrong. The prosecuter said that there is enough information on the ticket to deduce that the officer meant to issue the ticket to me and since I still wanted to dispute the ticket, I was allowed to set a court date. What else can I do about this ticket?

You admit that you broke the law and the ticket was issued to you and personally handed to you. You have noticed and an opportunity to be heard on the charges, so due process is satisfied. You can try to fight the ticket at trial, but it doesn't sound to me like you have a valid defense. Pay the fine.

Take defensive driving. Not only will it eliminate the mark on your license, but it will reduce your insurance.
