Woudln't it be easier for us to ammend the constitution through petition than it would be for us to wait the hundred years it will take congress to fix everything?

Amending the constitution is never easy, nor was it supposed to be.
Congress does not really seem interested in fixing anything. They have to be forced to fix things. This is how it has always been,
