most fish are egg layers and do not "get pregnant" the exception are live bearers such as guppies, swordtails, mollies & platys.

Female egg layers do "look" preganant, but that is because they are engorged with eggs... they may drop the eggs, and it is possible that a male fish of a similar species' milt (sperm) could fertilze the eggs, the result would be a sterile hybrid.

Female egg layers will produce eggs with or without a mate...

No they can't. Fish breed differently than mammals do and they lay eggs which are then fertilized by the male fish. Your fish getting big was not it getting pregnant because fish cannot get pregnant. The fish had just produced a bunch of eggs and was carrying them around until it found a suitable place for them to hatch. It probably laid them in the rocks and you didn't see them but they didn't make any other fish because there was not a male of the same species in the tank.

Yes, different breeds can mate. Except for Chinese Fighting Fish. They have to be kept separate from other fish

If your fish is not a molly, platy, sword, or guppy, then its roundness is probably due to bloat or a disease called dropsy. Most fish lay eggs rather than getting pregnant.

Yes it is possible. The offspring would be known as hybrids and would normally be sterile
