i.e.: I want children. My boyfriend pretty much doesn't, but would be willing to have one with me one day. He doesn't understand the purpose (for men) of having kids. He doesn't dislike them...just doesn't understand them. What are reasons men WANT to have kids?

A British writer once asked jazz musician Louis Armstrong what the blues were. He said, "If you have to ask, you'll never understand."

That's kind of the way I feel about this question. I have two kids (16 yr old boy and 14 yr old girl) and while they're not perfect, I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Kids are very entertaining. It's fascinating to see the traits each parent seems to instill in them or they're born with. It's amazing how bright they are, how fast they pick up things.

I wanted them (in part) to carry on the family name, to make me complete as a husband, to have a lot of good memories, to one day have grandkids, to have an opportunity to hopefully raise an honorable and good man (or woman) and at the risk of sounding corny, I think it's something God would want.

Yes, they're expensive. They're A LOT of work and spontaneity between the man and the woman kind of goes out the window when a kid comes along but overall, it's worth it.

I am NOT knocking anyone that can't have kids. Moreover, not everyone needs or should have kids. I know a number of people that should NEVER have had kids. My sister is one like that, should never have had kids, had them for stupid reasons.

Why? Children are tiny gifts from God, thats why. Thats an awesome responsibility and a chance to guide a life and experience a love no other human can give. When a child loves and trusts thats precious beyond words. Children are fun. But they are also a lot of work. In the end it is worth it to see a young adult become a responsible citizen and part of that was because of you.

As a man I have always wanted to have 5 kids God willing. Two girls and three boys. The oldest one needs to be a girl to babysit, j/k. The reason to why I want children is simple one really; what is point of living if you ain't got any kids. I can't imagine my life without a wife to stand by me and kids to carry on my name, to watch them grow up, to watch them succeed in life, to watch them get married, and to have kids of their own. Plus, it is always nicer to come to a house that is filled with children's laughter then to a house that is filled with dogs.

Men do not know this until they have had a child, its the best thing in the world, it is like a puppy, kind of lol, unconditional love and you have sooooooooooo many GREAT times ahead of you, farts, burps, sickness all at once, what dad would not like that lol.

its great fun with kids, I love my son to bits and we get on great as father and son ;-)

Its all part of being a family. Its wonderful to bring your children into the world and watch them grow. As they get older they become your friends and you share so much with them and then one day everything that you have worked for is passed down tothem.

The main reason men WANT to have kids, is all in one word, mortality. Men want to have their name carried on, which is why they name their sons after themselves, ie, so and so JR. Its all about the mortality of the man. Im very guilty of this, my son is a jr. I did that deliberately, just for that reason, I want my name to be carried on, after Im gone. But it truly IS a man thing there, mortality. My brother is one, named after dad. Good luck.

Well i can't answer cos i'm female but please don't have a child with this man. When you have children you both have to be totally devoted to that child and have to be prepared to put the child first. Unless this guy changes, he won't make good father material.

I would only like to have a little boy.... I could mould him in my image and teach him to play football and build tree houses. I could basically relive my youth with my son.
