Yes, it was very violent, but I really enjoyed it. I saw it advertised as a 'fairy tale for grown-ups' and I thought that is what it was. During the points when I felt the violence was extremely disturbing, I remembered back to when I was a child, and how scared I was at characters like Ursula in the Little Mermaid. I think maybe disturbing violence like that, especially towards children, is the only way to scare adults in the same way children's fairy tales scare children. If that makes any sense.
My husband was disappointed by the ending, but I thought it was fitting for the movie.

I thought it was one of the most besutiful movies I have ever seen.
My mom didnt appreciate the gore and violence either, but I think thats where America is so different in their taste then other countries. The rest of world isn't scared of turning stomachs or telling a sad story.
I mean look at the Amrerican filsm that are made. Do many of them tug at you like that one did? There are veryfew and they're Independent films.
Look at the viewer reviews for Bridge to Terebithia and you'll what I mean.

I really liked the movie. It was done nicely but I could have done without the one who's eyes were in his palms. But it was a good story and I would buy it when it comes out.

Pan's Labyritnth is a Mexican masterpiece, especially since I'm of Mexican descent. It's interesting to see Mexican filmmakers do their work with profession, and I for one am proud of them. I wish I can direct with Alfonso Cuaron, Walter Salles, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
