probably because consumers rip the tag off a mattress once they've already bought the mattress. but if a store clerk or factory worker ripped the tag off, they wouldn't know who made the mattress or they could stick a different tag on and sell the mattress for much less than it was worth.

The manufacturer of the mattress wants to make sure that the consumer sees the tag. If someone else rips it off, the consumer may not see it. Also, there could be government regulations about having mandatory labels on mattreses and the consumer must see it.

That law is not for the consumers like us.. it is for the store who sells the products. The consumers has a right to know about the materials and specifications of every product. If you bought a mattress for example from a store and you did not find any tag attached, you can report them to the Department of Consumer Affairs. But if you bought any product from the store, it is yours, your property you can do anything you want, just like buying a house.

Because the consumer needs to know the contents of the mattress. It is a Consumer Safety law.
