One reason is because it is an insult, To call a footballer a diver is an insult to him. So if i don't like Man U i am going to say ronaldo takes dives. He has dove before and so that is an easy insult. But many players dive, all the time. Drogba gets called a diver because many people don't like Chelsea now. And it is an easy insult as well. They are 2 famous footballers. If you watch and EPL game say, tottenham v fulham(2 random clubs off top of head) you will see dives. But the players/teams are not as famous and no one is looking to insult either of those teams(in general)

I think another is because the majority of blatant dives happen in the area. And I hate to see Man U score on a pk that was not a foul. Just as i assume anyone would hate to see a rival club or opponent "earn" a penalty on a dive. It is infuriating. So when a dive is done in the area, earns a pk and a goal, that is memorable for the opponent. And they will label him right there as a diver.

side note: I almost broke my tv a few weeks ago wen ronaldo went down (dove) in the box vs tottenham. Then he kinda shook his head and smiled about it. AAARRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Cant have everything I guess, there will always be divers. You shouldve seen Chelsea - Porto today, Porto players were diving even better than C. Ronaldo + Drogba and the ref was shooting yellow cards out of his as*.

It's a physcological thing really....Most people need to put down someone else, be it a team or an individual, in order to feel superior or better...

Diving in soccer is rampant...everyone does it and to label a couple of players in the entire soccer world is completely and utterly absurd...
