Realizing that everyone is not the same therefore no one is going to treat you exactly or as bad as your former spouse... and being honest in your current relationship about things that went on will give that person a chance to deal with things a different way, and depending how bad the abuse was whether physical or mental the other person will easily accept certain situations that may arise...and therapy for you is must... good luck

TAKE it to the CROSS!

In the bible, the verse just after the Lords prayer says The Lords Prayer :

Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Now think about this, if you do not forgive your ex, you are allowing that person to have a place in your life, no different than if you had a chain attaching the two of you together.

Do you really want to carry that person around with you for the rest of your life? No, so step in to action, FORGIVE them. To Forgive is an Action VERB, not a feeling. If you actively forgive them, then you have taken control away from the past and laid it at the foot of the cross. You will see a great deal of pain alleviated from your life, and you should be able to move on.

You can also look at it like a spiritual trash can. Take ALL of your junk to the foot of the cross, all of your Hurt, Frustration, Past, ALL of it, and leave it there. It is like a bag of dirty diapers you will not want to return to.

In those times when you want to go back to those thoughts of the past, just think of them as dirty diapers that you left in a big trash can. Do you really want to pick them up and look at them again?

NO.

There are many support groups out there for you, not to mention counseling.....also, if you're unwilling to do either, communication is essential!!

Abuse is a very unfortunate event, but fortunately, it won't necessarily follow you through your life.

Good luck to you.
