Is there any way of enabling my (1st gen) iPod nano to playback video?

The hardware is physically capable of playing videos, but the Nano firmware restricts it from being possible (Apple is one of many companies that traditionally dumbs down the hardware with restrictive firmware so they don't have to spend more money on developing two different hardware platforms for both high-end and budget use). If you could trick iTunes into loading the Video firmware onto a Nano, you'd have an argument for being able to play videos on a Nano without voiding your warranty, but any other solution will require installing homebrew firmware that will definitely void your warranty.

Ipod nanos does not have video playback because Apple's OS is preventing it. The only way to play videos on your nano is by installing another OS which is linux. I am not advocating that you should do it. It's not recommended because it will void your warranty but it is possible.

They will not play videos. They are not video iPods. That's what the iPod Video is for. The iPod Nano supports music, podcasts, audiobooks, and photos.

Installing ANY other software other than Apple's firmware updates onto an iPod WILL void your warranty, and can leave you with an unusable iPod.

Nope, the iPod Nano does not support video format.

yeah they won't play videos. I have one and tried to even put videos into a playlist onto my nano but that doesn't work. So unless your willing to pay the money for the ipod video then your stuck with music, audio books, and podcast.
