The surface area of a cube is found by finding the area of one of its faces and multiplying the area of one face by 6 (since all the faces are the same size). Since a cube has 6 squares as its faces, the area of one face is found by multiplying one side by 2.

A=s^2 (for one side)
A=6s^2 for all six faces

In your question 181.5 = 6s^2
so divide both sides of the equation by 6 which gives you:
30.25=s^2

Then take the square root of both sides of the equation which gives:

5.5 = s

So the length of its sides is 5.5 inches.
