Of course you have a chance! What i would say is; whenever you audition for a dance or cheer team, they are looking, not nesissarily for amazing technique or amazing flexibility etc, but motivation, enthusiasm and be good at working in a team. So...when you go in for your tryout, you have to show them, that as well as being able to dance well, you can encourage your team members, you can lead well but also take critisism and other peoples thoughts and ideas well, and that you WANT your team to work well and look amazing. You have to show them that not only are you a brilliant dancer, but you are there to work as a team. You have to sho that you can put your dance skills into a team. This may mean comprimising something you can do for someone else, but you will get your time to shine! Remember they are looking for a good dancing, hard working TEAM. Also, smile! not all the time sometimes you have to be serious, but if you smile and look like your enjoying it, it is so much better to watch. Have fun while your there, no professional company goes by a day without laughs and jokes in their rehearsals. They don't want a bunch of dancers who can't enjoy it while they're there because it will be boring to watch. I think one of the best things you can do is encourage the other people trying out. This will show you are there to support the people who are in your team (although i know they won't be the team yet obviously) and there to help everyone improve as well as yourself, so the team can be the best it possibly can. You sound like you can dance well, so don't worry about that. Now just show you are a good member. Hope this makes sense and helps. And good luck!

For grades, generally you need C's or higher. As far as the actual try-outs go, the two most important things you need to remember are: Have confidence in yourself and dancing skill, and SMILE. Smiling is the most important thing. Its shows your having fun with dance. For the dance team at my school, there is a routine that everyone learns and performs in small groups. Kicks in a kickline, some easy turns, splits, etc are showcased. If you make mistakes, shake them off. That impresses the coaches and shows that making mistakes doesn't shake you and that you can recover. Be focused. Volunteer for things if the coaches ask. Don't be afraid to mess up, because that fear will hold you back. Try your best and be ok with that. Good Luck.

My mom was a professional cheerleader for the Chicago Bulls. 2000 auditioned, 16 made it. The tryouts were three days long. She told me that make sure you concentrate the first time they say the step, and the second time they say it, mark it with the music if you can. If you forget a step, just keep going, make up a little corepgraphy until you remember the dance. they'll be impressed that you're trying. If they ask for any volunteers, always go first. That really stands out. Also, make sure you're enthusiastic and smiling and don't grimace if you mess up, even if you're concentrating hard, still keep a pleasant expression. Also, posture is key. Don't slump in there, walk with you're sholders back, back straight, neck long, and chin up.

Good luck on you're audition! I'm having one this weekend also, so I know how much effort that takes.

HI, I have been on my drill team for a year now and am now trying out for officer. Tips for leaps: -Point your toes!!!! The judges are looking for potential, so if you have good technique you have a good chance of making it.
Tips for Turns
-Make your prep position pretty
Spot ( Look at a spot on the wall and stay looking at it until you are at the point in your turn where you can't look there any more and then jerk your head around and look at that same spot again)
It keeps you from getting dizzy and looks cleaner.
Tips for Chasses:
-Kiss your feet!!! I can not stress this enough!
- Really get off the ground
-Stay on the balls of your feet and don't let your heels tough the ground! We are not going to a hoe down! :)

Also I am not sure exactly the style of your drill team, but you are probably going to do a try out kick dance so really stretch hard, you want those kicks as high as possible!
Also remeber these thing when kicking:
-Keep both legs straight at all times(if you are doing jump kicks,
'broken' base leg is ok which means slightly bent.)
-point unless told not to
-don't hunch over
-keep base heel on ground
And remember when you get in front of those judges keep a huge smile on the second you walk in those doors until after the doors are closed behind you, no matter how stupid you feel! And keep that chin held high with great posture unless otherwise instructed by the director. Also be nice to everyone you meet, one girl simply did not make the team because of her behavior during the clinic! You can do it, have confidence and pray to God.
I wish you the best of luck and if you want I can email you some pictures of some stretches you can do. As for the grades a C will usually get you by but B+'s and A 's will set you apart from the other girls. Also email me with any questions you have.
email: Jessica_Nailor@yahoo.com
Good Luck!
-Jessica

P.S. remember all dance/drill team styles are different so remeber that if the director/officers/returning members instruct you otherwise from what I have said.

P.S.S. Here is exactly what happened at my try-out:

I went to a two-week dance clinic and learned 2 dances a jazz and a kick
On the day of try-outs we all waited in the smaller gym and the actual try-outs were in the larger gym. When there was about 10 groups ahead of you you go into rotation process that includes a stretching station, a doing the dance station and a "on deck" station where returning members give you tips right befor you go on when you walk in front of the judges keep a huge smile on your face the whole time and have good posture we high-kick spaced and then we waited while the judges prepared there score sheets we then got into our begging positions for kick and preformed it to them. Stay in your ending position until the director or judge says you can relax, etc.
Then we waited for a moment while judges took notes. You then get in your begining position for jazz after they took notes we walked of and went back to the small gym to wait.
I DID get called back. It does NOT mean you didn't make it or that you arn't good there is just a good of chance you will make if you get called back than if didn't.
It either means the judges didn't get a good look at you or they arn't sure and if you do get called back and you don't make it then at least they considered you a second time. Me and lots of friends got called back and made it!!
the results where posted the next day at the school and on the website.

Yes, I'm one of the better dancers on my school's dance team, and usually, Cs will get you by but try to get better. This will increase your chances by a mile. Also, even if you mess up and/or don't know how to dance, act like it! Play it off. They'll never know.

i was captain of my dance team last year in middle school. we looked for girls who had the following qualities: make sure you know the dance perfectly. no flaws, precise movements. ask whoever is teaching you the dance for tips and any questions you might have. be sure to have good technique. point your toes, and always smile! i'm trying out for my high school dance team next week. good luck!

first of all how are they gonna test you... on a dance that they are gonna teach you or on a dance that you have to make up.... if they teach u a dance make sure u pay attention to everything. be cause they are gonna look for what u do wrong not just what u do right.. then make sure u show a lot of confidence at the tryout.. judges like that you feel comfortable dancing in front of them. it shows that when (if) you go to compatitons u wont be scared of crowds. and if u have to make up a dance do something different then everyone else. make sure u stand out from the others. it will make them remember you when they choose thier team.... GOOD LUCK!

Usually needs to be c's and better, sometimes b's and better-don't let the snobby girls ruin your mood-trust me there will be some. Just do your best and see what happens-if nothing else, you will at least learn what to do next year.
