Sure there is!!! I have an autistic child in my class and the assisstant has taken classes in that area. Teachers can get a degree in special eduacation (very broad) but you will learn how to deal with these children. I have also babysat for a girl who has autisim. She is high functioning and has had Applied Behavioral Analysis for years and she speaks well and can get along like other students. I don't know where you live, but in NY there are many trainings, lectures and classes on autism-especially since it is seemingly on the rise.

There is a great deal of research supporting the use of Applied Behavior Analysis to address the symptoms collectively categorized as autism. To find out more about ABA you can join any number of Yahoo groups including autism_aba; DTT.NET; Verbal Behavior; etc. On these lists you will find numerous postings archived regarding workshops, online courses, local trainings, etc. Best of luck!
