I'm about 5' tall with shoes on, 110 lbs. I'm registering for a basic motorcycle training to start with. Any idea on what type of bike I should look at? been browsing through the net. maybe a ninja or katana? people say I may need to get it lowered. Any advise? any advise on what other classes I should take or any other ones for a first timer? I don't know crap about motorcycles, all I know is that I want to ride.

Make sure you can get your feet firmly on the ground while sitting in the saddle, whatever you get. I would say to look at a Kawasaki Ninja 250 or a Buell Blast with the optional low seat as both of these have a reputation for being short rider friendly. I also wouldn't recommend going over 500 cc's as the bikes with larger engines can be harder for a beginner to control.

I would recommend a used Buell Blast or Ninja 250 or 500. Only you will be able to decide wether you need to get it lowered or not, and you'll only be able to tell when you sit on the bike. There are a lot of people who get their bikes lowered at first just becaue they are unsure of themselves, and they think they need to to be able to keep the bike up. Then they realize they were just being paranoid about dropping it. Get a used bike so dropping it isn't a big deal, it's bound to happen if you're a new rider. Go sit on a bunch of bikes. If you look at their specs online, compare your inseam to their seat height. I think the buell blast has one of the lowest seat heights of all sportbikes.

Buy a challenge you can grow into rather than out from. Your size will make you a fast companion on less powerful machines
while the belly-over-belt crowd need fat bob iron to drag their oversize buttocks up to speed. My advise is to leather-up
because you've just entered your stupid season. Experience brings safety, Don't stint on rain suit. Don't neglect your female side either. Pink, Soft Blue, or Awesome Kill Bill Yellow is fine.
Buy new. Schedule regular maintenance. Be The Woman.

My best advice is to go to your local motorcycle dealerships,,,and get the sales people to try you out on a few different models,,Go to different Brand names as well,,,not just one,,,and when you are happy with a fit,,then you will know what is right for you.
Its kinda like buying something to wear,,it needs to be comfortable,,see what i mean???
Most of the time First time riding involves a training bike to begin with,,something you are going to trade in on a bigger one once you gain experience.

a good bike to learn on would be a suzuki gs 500 or there
are the ninja 250.don't get the katana it is to heavy for you
and a little to much power for you.the gs 500 is a nice looking
bike to start out with.good luck.

hooraa for you , the best thing for you would be to go to some bike shops and try some bikes on for fit. talk to the tecks. about options for the bike you like to get it lowered.how ever you should stay away from the crotch rockets for now .start with a smaller less powerfull bike,and cut your teeth on something that is light enough for you to handle. RULE OF THUMB, when buying a bike. I f you cant pick it up laying on the groun and get it back on its wheels by yourself its to big for you,,,lots of luck ,hope to see you on a ride someday.

my brother who is kinda short got a buell blast for a first bike. I rode it a couple of times and I'm only 5'3. Not a problem. It is a nice starter bike.

First of all a motorcycle take 10 times more maintence than a car, and if you neglect it you will be sorry. Second, i would suggest a bike under 500cc's to begin riding. And if you get a bike you need to be able to touch the ground flat with your feet, if you can't get it lowered. I suggest a honda, or kawasaki for sportbikes. For more comfortable rides get a cruiser. I would suggest trying a cruiser and a sportbike and see what you want, and try as many bikes as possible before you buy.
ps. i'm not really a harley person i think they are overated and expensive, a honda is just as good.

If you want something that can go fast, BMW makes top notch motorcycles. If you want something to go hang out with ppl on, get a Harley. Harley's will still give you that motorcycle feel, but yill have that distinctive Harley sound. You don't have to get big apehangers. Harley makes smaller ones.
