It kind of depends on how big the tank is and how much work you want to put into the tank. Some that don't need a lot of work and would go in pretty much any size tank are: Java Moss, Jave Fern, Riccia, Cabomba (needs plenty of light), Frog bit, crystalwort, bladderwort and elodea.

All aquatic plants are great for an aquarium. But they all need different care. If you want easy to grow plants that need little to no care, go with java moss, java fern, anacharis, hornwort, and wisteria. Those are some plants that I have kept that need no care, except for pruning.

Look for plants that would be in their habitat. Loads of acquaculture sites out there.
Also figure out the PH of your tank vs. the required PH of the plants so that when you do choose a species you can make sure that it will adapt and thrive in your tank.

ive got a peice of ivy in mine. completely submersed. 2 swordtails couple mollys 3 neon tetras one female betta. 10 gallon./
