If the ball is still in play, you'd be out.
However, if the pitcher has the ball and the umpire calls time, play stops and you could return to the base (or be replaced with another runner if you got hurt.)
The other way to remain safe would be if you fell while going towards a base you are entitled to risk-free. For instance, if you fall after getting hit by a pitch, walking, or hitting a home run, you can get back up without being tagged out.

Yup. Just about the only time an umpire would be justified in calling "time" during a play would be if a runner were to be severely injured and in danger of being injured even more by a base runner behind him. Such cases are extremely rare.
