I am all for handicapped parking...what irritates me is people who park in the spot just because they have the permit even if their disabled parent, child, etc. that the permit was intended to aid IS NOT EVEN WITH THEM AT THE TIME! Or just as bad, the people who don't have a permit and park in the spot because they wanted a good one or they'll 'just be a minute'!

Yes, the handicapped have a harder time getting around so why not try to make their life easier.
Personally, I like to park in the aisle in front of the door I'll be going in and the farthest space from the door. I never forget where I park. I hate circling to find the closest spot. Drives me nuts when I'm with someone else. Just park the thing and walk, we could be in the store already!!

No, there are people who deserve the better parking spaces and the handicap people don't. The handicap people could have reserved parking far away from the main door but not right next to it. It is important to let the healthy people have first place instead of promoting benefits to broken, botched, and bodily weaklings. Why should the strong make a special place in society for the weak? With that type of thinking, in the end you will end up rewarding the weak at the expense of the strong. Is that the world you want?

Yes, most definitely there should be handicap parking. There are some people who would not be able to get anywhere if they had to park or someone park for them waayyy out in the parking lot. Look at the situation as if it were you. Just a suggestion.

Sure but I think there should be a much higher fine for parking in a handicap space like, getting your car towed and a $100 fine on top of that.

Yes I believe so!
Its amazing what normal people take for granted when they dont have disability or anyone immobilised by age in their family.
It is a struggle to just get in and out of the car let alone get to your destination when you are handicapped. Where it would take a normal person a minute to get out of the car and lock the door and walk off.
There are unloading of pushers/frames/wheelchairs with or without ramps, most times the pushers/frames/wheelchairs need unfolding. There are carers/family, trying to assist and gather the persons belongings and what they need to take with them to their appointments or destination.
I am the mother of a disabled teenage daughter and it can take up to a good 10-15minutes just to get out of the car and organised before we are on our way. My daughter requires constant care and cannot be left unattended meaning I cannot unload her in a loading zone or onto the street and leave her on her own while I go find a parking bay.
It really stinks when you get some ignoramus that just comes along and parks in the disability parking when they have no disability and no parking bay sticker. They really dont realise how much harder they make life for the disabled people who are then forced to park further away from their destination and have to struggle up gutters/kerbs to get there.
It is disgusting that some of the handicapped carers/families ill treat the privilege of having a handicapped parking permit by parking in the handicapped bay when they dont have the handicapped person with them. I think they should be punished with a hefty fine just as a normal person who parks in the handicapped zone and doesnt have a handicapped parking permit should. Where are their morals???
Lets face it Australia/America regardless unless the town designer seats himself in a wheelchair and trys to independently get around the town he is not faced with the norm that the handicapped are. More ramps are needed on streets/into shops, beit concrete/aluminimum/steel or even pavers to take some of the struggle/inconvenience/burden off the handicapped and their carers/families.
If only the Ignoramuses could walk a day in our shoes ;)
Cheers

Are you suggesting the people who have trouble walking should be forced to walk from the back of the parking lot just to do some grocery shopping? It's hard enough for these people to get around and get things done. And the rest of us could use the exercise. Most people don't get nearly enough exercise.

i dunno..well, see in school the teachers tell us to treat the handicapped like they're us, which they are, so why are they telling us that? but then, they get these special privileges and get to do more than we can. why, because they're physically disabled. now im not saying that we should stop that, but i mean, we shouldnt give so much privileges that they would feel outside of the people who arent getting that kind of privileges.
