How can I write an introduction about W.W.I?

I'm stuck on how to write a good opening for a report about Trench Warfare and Life of a Soldier. What could I say?

Pick a story that really stands out about how hard it was to be a soldier during World War I. Try one of the battles that was really terrible, like the Marne or the Somme.

Gallipoli was also a terrible battle. For inspiration, see the movie with Mel Gibson.
