my friends and i are having a disscussion and they said that if you wrote something about being raped, then it is reported. well what if the student made it up? i mean people make it up all the time.

I doubt that the test administers will report any questionable essays, since a large majority of stories are made up, and the graders know it. However, just to be safe, you probably wouldn't want to write something like that, since it would probably be deemed inappropriate.

A teacher is required by law to report any SUSPECTED abuse or assault.

Many times a teacher will confront a student before calling social services, or ask a counselor to speak with the student to verify the information.

I tell my students that when they write, they should write appropriate topics. I define appropriate as anything they would be willing to show to me, the principal, and their mom.

It also depends on the assignment that they were asked to complete. If it's a short story, then it's easy enough to ask a student if it's fiction or not. If they wrote it in an in class journal, that's something a bit different.

Well, that's life. Usually controversial topics aren't put in newspapers or daily news without proof. It's a good question. It happened a lot in the early 20's. I know that.
