It's a good question, but here is my take...

Magic would have to be number one. He came into the league and changed the way a point gaurd looked and played. Just imagine the type of numbers he would have had if the HIV thing hadn't happened.

John Stockton is next, but barely, as I believe he would have been good even if Malone had been on another team but his numbers wouldn't have been as good...

...which leads me to Nash. He has been an awesome point guard for two different teams and has chemistry with everyone he plays with. Stockton played better D so that is why Nash is below him and Nash wouldn't be as good on a team that didn't run and gun all the time as the Suns and Mavs did during his tenures.

Isiah Thomas took Detroit to the finals and was an amazing captain for them. Who else could have controled a crazy like Lambier all those years. Because he won a championship I almost put him ahead of Nash and Stockton. All three are close.

Oscar Robertson, combined the skills of a point guard with those of a small forward, becoming one of the first point forwards which eventually became popularized by Scottie Pippen. So I put him at number 5 just for revolutionizing a new position in basketball.

Ray Allen, Jason Kidd, Nate Archibald, John Starks, Steve Kerr, Lenny Wilkens, Bob Cousey, Gary Payton all deserve consideration as well.
Sue Bird would be the best in the WNBA

GOOD QUESTION AGAIN

First off, Jerry West, Walt Frazier and Michael Jordan were both shooting guards, so I don't know why some people have them two in their top five.

Here's my top 5 point guards:

1. Magic Johnson
2. John Stockton
3. Oscar Robertson
4. Isiah Thomas
5. Jason Kidd

I can't believe no one knows who the true #1 point guard (by far) of all-time in the NBA is!

1. John Stockton - yes, i know he doesn't have a ring (thanks to a certain #23, who kept other greats from winning the big one as well). but, to not put the all-time leader in assists and steals at this spot is ludicrous. How Nash wins multiple MVP s w/ less assists per game than Stockton ever got, just boggles the mind. Stockton to Malone!

2. Magic Johnson - simply great and fun to watch. could play multiple positions and his rivalry w/ Larry is my favorite.

3. Oscar Robertson - ask Jason Kidd why this guy deserves this spot (hint: 10,10,10).

4. Bob Cousy - one of the originals that the above-mentioned point guards patterned their game after.

5. Gary Payton - simply for statistics, I stopped liking him after he started chasing a ring in the last few years.

or

5. Isiah Thomas - a great player on a great team.

1. Bob Cousy
2. Nate Archibald
3. JoJo White
4. Walt Frazier / Earl Monroe (they were interchangeable for the
Knicks)
5. John Stockton

I noticed a lot of people put shooting guards on their lists. That would change mine also, but I went with pure point guards.
