Pros:

Any form of percipitation, be it rain, snow, sleet, hail, etc. is good for the environmet. It provides much needed moisture for vegitation. Percipitation aloo carries an abundent amount of nutrients needed by vegitation to stimulate the growth mechanism. It has also been found that percipitation aids in the cleansing of the atmosphere of harmful dusts, allergins, and pollutants, thereby aiding in the prevention of allergic reactions in people and animals.

Cons:

In order to eliminate large ammounts of snow and ice, it has been found beneficial to use ice melting chemicals. Anytime chemicals are introduced freely into the environmet, certain types of damage will result. for instance, salt is used in many colder places to melt snow and ice from roadways and sidewalks. The salt eventually gets flushed to the sides where it can come into contact with vegitation. Salt does have good propertices to it, however, large concentrations near vegitation can cause burning. this causes large ammounts of vegitation to die, cutting back on the earts supply of oxygen producing plants.
The chemicals can also end up in streams, which will have a devistating effect on the aquatic ecosystem. Fish, crayfish, salamanders and such perish by the thousands yearly. these chemicals can also produce ill affects in animals if they are exposed to them.

I think we should all just learn to live with the snow and ice. If we need to defeat it, design shoes with better gripping soles and tires that can handle the ice.

Hope this info helps!

Cheers!
