My fiance and I are starting to talk about trying to conceive. I'm just curious how long it took other women to conceive after stopping birth control (NuvaRing)? I know it varies for everyone. See we're getting married in May and are hoping to conceive around that time period. When should I stop my birth control to achieve this? Should I wait until May to stop BC? If I understand it correctly, it can take 2 to 4 weeks to start ovulating again after a long period of time on BC. Just wanted some opinions! Thanks!

Way back when, the birth control pill was actually used as a fertility drug to get women to be regular. You're actually very fertile right after you stop taking the pill. I stopped and used condoms for 1 month. The very next month, I became pregnant. The Nuva Ring works pretty much the same way as the Pill, but it's obviously a different delivery system. Keep in mind you can't always plan these things...I have two friends who are perfectly normal and healthy and have been going through hell for 2 years trying to get pregnant. My advice...take what you can get and be happy. Good luck to you and your fiance!

One of the advantages of the birth control pill is that it's quickly reversible. After you stop taking the pill, you may have only a two-week delay before you ovulate again. Your period would follow about four to six weeks after you take the last pill. Once ovulation resumes, you can become pregnant. If this happens during your first cycle off the pill, you may not have a period at all. However, although possible, this scenario isn't likely. You have only a one in five chance of becoming pregnant during your first cycle trying to conceive.

It all depends on what kind of birth control you were on and how long you were on it. Usually it would take one cycle to get the hormones out of your system but some women have gotten pregnant right away and some women have taken months to get pregnant. It is best to wait a month or two after getting off birth control to try and conceive.

While some people get pregnant by missing just one birth control pill, for others it can take several months to return to normal cycles, and so, there's no way to tell how long it will take for you to return to ovulation after you stop using the ring. It may take as long as six months for some people to return to regular cycles. You should talk to your health care provider about when to stop, what contraception you might want to use until you're ready to get pregnant, what you need to do to ensure your best health and the best health of a baby, including eating right, exercise, taking pre-natal vitamins, and so on.
