Hi Everyone,

My *almost* 6 month old is eating jarred foods very well. I've given her the normal squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, apples and pears. She seems to like anything I put in her mouth.

Here are my questions...

1) When can I introduce meats into her diet (i.e. chicken with rice jarred baby food)

2) Are peas ok? I heard a rumor that she shouldn't have peas until 8 mo. old...I can't figure out why.

3) Since she is eating the jarred foods so well, I've cut back on the rice cereal. She only gets about a tablespoon once in the morning. Should I increase the amount of rice cereal I'm giving her?

I know I'm lumping three questions into one, but if you have the time and energy to answer them, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mandy

1. At 6 months, my baby "graduated" to the stage 2 jarred foods, which included chicken and rice. They have stage 1 meats in jarred foods too, but they're really smelly and not a lot of babies like them. So, if your baby has been eating solids for a while (like about 2 months), it should be fine to move up to stage 2 foods and meats. Basically, stage 2 foods have bigger portions and more variety and blends than stage 1.

2. Peas are fine if they're cooked and mashed really well. My daughter got baby food peas when she was around 5 months old. (She hated them, though.) I haven't heard about the 8 month rule, but I'm assuming it's because peas have a tough skin if they're not cooked well.

3. I fed my baby rice cereal for breakfast in whatever portions she felt like having. There's no need to cut back. In fact, you can even mix some of the jarred fruits in it or some (non-citrus) juice for a little extra variety and a nice little treat.

Hi Mandy....Peas are fine. You can give her cereal only for breakfast if you want. Gerber makes some good meat entrees. Chicken & rice ,Ham and apples etc. They are fine to give you baby at this point. She probably will love them. Also Gerber makes deserts. I used to but one or two a week for my son. They usaully lasted one or two days. Also yogurt is good. If you put an apple in the oven with a little water in the pan and bake around 45 minutes then put a little cinnamon and a pinch of brown sugar she will love. I still bake those for my son. It almost comes out like applesauce.

You can probably introduce meats anytime you want, as long as they are stage 1 or 2 (if they make meats for that stage?).
Peas are great! Any veggies are terrific.
My kids HATED rice cereal. They ate very, very little of it at all.
If she's that adventurous, you could also tiny, gumable foods like avocado that is cut up small. Just remember to stay away from the dairy and stuff that can get caught in her throat. Have fun! My kids loved blueberries.

My daughter is six months previous - she became sixteen lbs at her 4 month verify, so i'm assuming she is around 18 to 19 lbs now. not sure on her length, yet she became 26 inches at 4 months and that i understand she has gotten longer. She is in length 3 diapers. She eats a million/2 cup of cereal on a daily basis and a million point 2 jar of fruit and a million point 2 jar of vegetables on a daily basis. Plus, she nurses 6 instances an afternoon. I havent given her juice. only dont see a reason to spectacular now, yet she will drink water.

If she has enough protein and iron in her diet there is no need to introduce meat just yet. I would wait until around 7 to 9 months. Peas are ok...sometimes they upset little tummies but I think its usually the shell. Try them if you bub gets stomache ache than try shelling them. If it happens again just wait until she is a bit older. It wont do any real damage. I would only increase the amount in the morning if she wanted more.

The main thing is that your baby is having a balanced diet try introducing some more fruits (not citrus) and more vegies...like pumpkin, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts.

I put my kids on the meats as soon as they went into stage two. I have never heard that about the peas. You should probably be feeding her cereal at least twice a day. Hope this helps.

DONT GIVE HER PEAS!

You can introduce meals in her diet from 6 months foward.

You should not give her more rice cereal unless she asks for it, or she is still hungry.
