We are returning to Florida this year and arrive on xmas day. Any sugggestion of what we can do in the two weeks other than Disney. We loved the Parks but woudl liek to see more of Florida -any ideas that are not covered in the guide books??

When we were there in December, we found this little place that had arcade games and go-kart rides as well as some other rides. I don't remember exactly the name or where it was, except that it was not too far from the Pirates Dinner show. (we were early for the dinner show and rode around to kill some time) We went on the rides (there were not many people there at all!!!) and it was reasonably priced.

Busch Gardens: Has some AWESOME rollercoasters, water rides, animals and shows
Lowery Park Zoo: its a zoo with parks and stuff
Daytona Beach/Coco Beach: Beautiful beaches out there to surf and wade and soak up the sun
Kennedy Space Center: Visit astronmical stuff.
Gator Land; If you want to see gators.
St. Augustine: Very Historical and a cool fort made by the Spaniards, as well as the oldest city in the US. Do a haunted Ghost tour there. Ripleys Believe it or not is out there as well.
Clearwater Beach: Has a nice beach area out there. (Live here so its ok, lol)
St. Pete/Madiera/St. Johns Pass, Indian Rocks Beaches
Tampa Bay area where Busch Gardens is, there is a place called Ybor City, it has a lot of clubs, restaurants, bars, theater, very popular with younger crowd at night, and an older crowd during the day.
Lowery Park Zoo in Tampa bay (1-1.5hr drive)
Those are some other things you can do while out there.
Plus there is Sea World and Animal Kingdom you can visit.
Sarasota: Ringling Museum here as well as Siesta Key which is close, the beach there is beautiful.

I have been to Florida 5 times on holiday and really there is not much more there than the theme parks and the beaches. I guess youn could go shopping in the malls (there are some good shops there) or drinking in the bars (over 21s only!) or possibly eating in the excellent restaurants.
You could go on a boat tour through the swamps. These are pretty good trips and I enjoyed one a few years back.
If you want a laugh go to King Henry's feast on the 192 and see what Ye Olde Englande is "really" like.
The Florida beaches are pretty excellent from what I have been told but I have not seen them myself. I prefer quieter beaches myself.
The Cape Kennedy NASA site is good for those interested in rockets and space.
Golf, tennis etc are all available in Florida too if you like sports.

Visit the show horses at Dolly Partons stampede dinner show,stables open to the public daily.
Go on an air boar ride.
Visit a nature trail
Stay a few days at Fort Lauder-dale, Tampa and Miami.
Visit the Missasukee Indian village in Miami.
Visit Kennedy space station.
Go to the zoo
Go to the beach
University of South Florida Botanical gardens
Try typing in off the beaten track in Florida see if anything comes up that you might fancy

If you drive then there are plenty of options-St.Augustine is part of old Florida and is very historical,Homassassa Springs has the Manantees,St.Petersburg is lovely and the Dali museum there is good. Nearer to Orlando there is a place called Yeehaw Junction that's interesting.Florida is full of things to see & do that don't revolv around the theme parks!

The beaches in Clearwater and St Pete's are worth a look and they are only 1.5hr drive, and although it is a park have you thought about discovery cove, swimming with dolphins is such an experience. Hope that helps and enjoy your trip

We went on a city tour which was very interesting. The guide was very informative and we saw lots we probably wouldnt have seen doing it ourselves.

gator park isn't far plus at a place called[i think] crossroads a restaurant called jungle Jim's.lovely steaks.and theres a ride where you sit in a sling shot type thing [circular metal cage] trust me hunt it down and go for it.[hope you don't mind height's]
