Conveniently, I write to France a lot as we have a branch office there, and I am one of the only ones who can write fluent French.
Airmail for your letter I would put at about 44p (I send an A4 sized letter of a few pages for that), so two stamps would suffice possibly, but I would use 2 firsts.
Also, you don't need the airmail sticker, you can get away with fust writing Airmail on the envelope.
BTW, check out Royal Mail website, http://www.royalmail.com for advice.

RE:
How many stamps do I need to send a letter from the UK to France?
I am too lazy to go to the post office but want to make sure I put enough postage on it to get from the UK to France. Its just a normal DL envelope with 1 piece of A4 paper in it. Will 2 first class stamps be enough?
Thanks!

You need a Euro stamp. It's a stamp with a letter E on it instead of pence or 1st or 2nd class. It allows you yo send a regular letter anywhere in Europe. It costs around 60-70 pence but you can buy it only at the Post Office, and you need air mail stamp too

It is not the NUMBER of stamps that it is required - it is the VALUE of the stamps. That will depend on the size of the letter - the weight of the letter - how you want to send it (air mail or surface) . No one can give you an accurate answer without seeing the letter - take it to your local post office where they will weigh it and then sell you the correct VALUE stamps (which may be one, two, three or even four depending on what values they have in stock) .....

Hi, you need to send it airmail either with a sticker or use airmail paper and it normally costs about 64 pence to send post to France.

I have heard that if you put a first class stamp on a french letter it makes the 'male' come quicker.

Sorry but i think your still going to have to get it weighed at the post office. because the PO recently introduced a new way of sizing and therefore pricing each envelope or package.
SORRY
