If the Earth suddenly stopped orbiting the Sun, I know eventually it would be pulled in by the Sun's gravity and hit it and it would take about two months for the Earth to hit the Sun.
If the Earth become near enough to the Sun (within the Roche limit), and tidal forces will tear it apart).
This may one day happen by freak accident if something comes out of nowhere and randomly knocks Earth in precisely the right direction. Earth's final resting place: a small globule of vaporized iron sinking slowly into the heart of the Sun.
The hottest place in the world is Dallol in Ethiopia (East Africa). It's average annual temperature is 94 degrees farenheit (34.4 C)! So imagine the earth being even CLOSER to the sun and trebble that temperture a million times...........we and earth would burn up

If the Earth moved closer to the sun it would get hotter and the year would get shorter.
In order to maintain an orbit, the Earth would have to move faster so the year would be shorter.
Unless there was some other event, the day would stay the same length.

Actually, Earth would have to move closer to the sun. Result: big-time global warming . . .
