If we send in more American influence, what makes our administration believe Maliki's govt will act any differently than in the past?
I would like to understand their logic (or lack thereof).

Dr Schmoo, as a matter of fact I do. We need to work harder to increase employment in Iraq and offer a diplomatic solution (a diplomatic solution worked for North Korea). It will work if we get many nations and the UN to support it. We can then have universal peace-keeping measures and if Iraq needs to sort out its civil war then let them.

Mail J, there is no clear purpose. (Hence, read your first line and think about your own response.)
Also with your logic (or lack thereof), if they are already in such control of their country, then why don't we leave!?!?!?!??
Huh??? Can you answer that one Dr. Nonsensical?

BTW, you uninformed wacko, sending in more troops IS supposed to be helping them to gain control over the crisis. Maybe YOU should read the papers.

Grannytoad, I DID offer a better plan.
Next time try reading more than the title question unless you want to keep answering in an idiotic fashion.

Becuase the administration plans to occupate Iraq for a while to protect certain "interests". They never had any plans to just get in and get out, because if they did, Colin Powell would have planned this and we would have been out of Iraq.

You will never find logic in an illogical train of thought.

Troop surge has nothing to do with Iraq govt. taking over control. Since you haven't been reading the news papers, I will tell you. Two Iraqi elections were help to elect officials so that they can govern their own country. They are already is control of their country!.

The President also said , he will not propose sending more troops to Iraq without a clear purpose. Of course, you don't want to hear that do you?

You can't dig your way out of a hole that you dug yourself into. It's insane by definition--doing the same thing over and over expecting different results!!

Maliki is an idiot--did you see the latest press release?

A woman who was raped by three members of the police force went in to complain. Maliki did a classic George W. and honored the 3 officers and then villified the woman---Can it get any worse?
Privatizing all of the reconstruction and using immigrants instead of Iraqi's is another dissappointment.

They were given democracy--but they were never given the tools or the knowledge to make it work.

New governments, new democracies, take time. Ours did. A little help can't hurt. There are a lot of "Marcus" (Marquis) and "LaFayette" as given-names back in Americans' genealogy.

What makes you think it can't?

You haven't offered a better plan. You need to pay attention to history.

"Talking" cost US & Brit taxpayers 13 years of post-Desert Storm military containment of Saddam, add 5 more to make that 18 to date. It would seem to me that recent 5 years are effectively the Iraq exit strategy - as enacted into law by President Clinton's regime change in Iraq policy, see Iraq Liberation Act http://www.library.cornell.edu/colldev/mideast/libera.htm

Because there has never been an elected gov in Iraq for the past 50 years. Therefore, they do not know how to govern. It will turninto a mess when ever we leave and I hope that is soon. They need another dictator to lead them to water.

The same logic that makes Bush want to protect our troops from the 1% of I.E.D.s in Iraq that come from Iran but doesn't care if they're poorly equipped or stationed in "a bunch of little Alamo's".
