Is slave music (also called soul or gospel) still evident in today's music or is it a thing of the past? If it is still alive, where (in what music) does it exist?

I think "slave music" ended with the slaves. It was just their songs and music and way of entertaining themselves.

Oh my goodness, yes, it's still around! It pretty much exists in the same form it always did. If there are no gospel radio stations in your area, listen to some on the net, or check the gospel section of any large music store. And its influences reach into virtually every kind of American music - rock, blues, jazz, country, you name it.
