The higher up your ear piercings are, the more painful it is.

But if you're just thinking about getting your earlobes pierced, then no, it doesn't hurt.

Everyone has a different level of pain tolerance, but most people find your basic lobe piercings are pretty painless. I myself would describe it as feeling like two hot little pinches, more surprising than actually painful. Afterwards, they can be a little sore, but if you keep them really clean and keep your hands off of them, the pain goes away in a couple of days.

The only thing I would recommend is to NOT get them pierced with a piercing gun, like they do at Claire's or Afterthoughts or any of those places. It is far less painful and more sanitary to have a professional at a piercing and tattoo place do them with a needle instead. I got my lobes done with a gun, and it stung a lot more than when I got more piercings done with a needle.

It hurts for a moment just like a shot and then it is over. It will be a little inflamed and sore for a couple of days, but no big deal. Should not keep you up at night or anything. All my girls have had their ears pierced when they were infants, but my three year old had to had hers repierced because they went shut and she did not even flinch. Hope this helps!!

i had my cartilage pierced 3 times in which all three hurt...it stung like a bee sting and then after that it hurt like it was punched for the next 2 days. I had to get my ear loaves pierced 5 times because i kept on losing the earings and it didnt hurt at all. so depends on where your getting it. usually the cartilage hurts alot more than the loaves because of its thickness.

I had them count to three before they pierced so it didn't seem to come out of no where. It does sting a little bit afterwards, but it really is not all that bad.

If you can handle getting a shot, this is like that, only the pain lasts for like 5 seconds, no joke.

I have my ears and belly button pierced, and I honestly did not know that they had pierced any of them until after they told me. Just relax and breath deep and you won't feel a thing. However, I don't know if this applies for cartilidge. I've heard that's anywhere from a strong pinch to very painful.

Any piercing is going to hurt at least a bit. If your fear of a moment of pain is greater than your desire for pierced ears, don't get it done, or wait until you develop enough courage.

my ears hurt a little after being pierced, but it wasn't that bad. they were just very red. put ice on your ears afterwards, and remember to clean them every few hours.

my mom used to pierce ears when she worked in a department store, and she did my ear piercing using something that looks like a stapler.

It hurts for a bit, but it's worth it in the long run ( I got mine pierced at 18).

Of course a needle going into your skin hurts....it is like getting stung by a bee and if you take care of them then they heal quickly and you have to keep them clean. It's not like surgery or anything but it doesn't hurt so bad you are going to go home and cry about it for days either.
