Gonchar, Recchi and Crosby are all alternate captains, the Penguins do not have a captain this year though. Therrian didn't want to appoint one when Lemieux left so it was left vacant. More than likely Crosby will be the captain at the beginning of next season.

The Penguins have three alternate captains, Mark Recchi, Sergei Gonchar, and Sidney Crosby. They do not have a captain because they decided not to fill Mario's spot for several reasons.
The main reason is because Recchi was upset that Crosby was being put in a leadership position even though he is so young. Recchi felt that the captaincy should go to a more experienced player. To resolve this problem without hurting team chemistry, the organization decided to not have a captain this year.

They don't have one this year to honor Lemieux. The A is worn by Sidney Crosby, Sergei Gonchar, and Mark Recchi.

Crosby, Recchi and Gonchar are alternating captains, there is no official captain for the Penguins and there hasnt been since lemiuex retired for good

they do not have a captain as such, the alternates fill the roll when needed (gonchar, recchi, and crosby). they're reason for this is to respect lemieux being the great player he was.

They don't have one they only have Alternate captains. one is crosby i can't remember the other one probably armstrong.
