I'm White Japanese and Hawaiian. There's 3 right there.
And GO TO COLLEGE or GET OUT OF THE HOOD. The longer you stay there, the more likely that you will be trapped and become another statistic.

Events at community colleges or centres.
Attend local theatre groups and anything dealing with art.
Go to culture fest and start watching international films (movies are expesive I know but some art houses show them for 5 bucks).
Good luck and don't EVER let anyone tell you that because you come from the ghetto of Chicago you cannot experience all YOUR country has to offer.

We're not all idiotic bigots, honey, out here in the rest of the country. I'm sure Chicago has a lot of different cultures and races, it is a big city after all.
As long as you're not judging others, just be true to yourself and you'll find good and decent and fun folks out there. You will run into bigoted (insert dirty word here) people everywhere. Ignore them, look for the good peeps, and have fun expanding your world!!!

Don't worry about being prejudged we are all the same. I'm a Native Indian and Irish. I have never adapted to one or the other; I accept me as one human under one omnipotent God. I hope you meet all you seek and all that find you. Take care

College, workforce, public service.... There are many ways to get out and meet people. Try and break away from the norm and stick yourself in an unusual situation. The only way to learn about each other is to get out and meet one another one on one. Face to face communication is the best form of communication.
Good question.

Don't let fear hold you back. People that you meet might feel prejudice toward you at first, but if you are friendly and keep talking to them, they will overcome their prejudices, and you will learn from experience how to be less ghetto with time if you keep meeting other people.

First of all, don't try to be someone you're not. Be proud of who you are. Go different places. Read books and study other cultures so that it would be easier for you to find some commonalities. Relax, be friendly and conversate! I'm so proud of you my sister!

Attend college. That's how I did it. Don't cop out and go to an HBCU. You'll miss out on a lot of culture.
