why do film producers keep making rehashes of old films, particularly british classics, ive just seen that a remake of ( A school for scoundrals ) has been made ( i would advise all us citizens to see the original 60s version, its a hoot, as well as my favourite film )

remakes are never as good as the 1st, i think modern film directors are lazy... oops there goes my acting career

Because people in Hollywood are afraid. It's that simple.

Hollywood movies today cost as much to make and to market and distribute as it does to feed small countries. Nobody wants to risk that kind of money on an unproven film idea, have it flop at the box office (or the DVD market, which is a bigger revenue source for the studios these days), and then lose their jobs.

So the decision makers look for properties with a built-in audience (Comic books, novels, TV Shows, and to a lesser extent, stage productions) to adapt to film. Or they'll take the best from independent productions or foreign properties, make them bigger and then churn them back out. Working from proven material helps them minimize their risk. Not necessarily a good or bad thing, that's just the way it is.

The people on the artistic side of filmmaking aren't to be blamed for this (unless you want to blame some of them for inflating the filmmaking budget with their salaries). They do the best they can with what they're given to work with. That's why these artists will work for much less in an indie than they usually will in a studio production, if they believe in the project.

That's why indie film is where it's at for new ideas. Studio films are driven by profit (and there are a lot of people to be paid, from the studio head down to the cook at the commissary, and especially to the stockholders), while indie film is driven by the need to tell the story.

This is because Hollywood is mostly a propaganda producer these days.. so it's like a revolving door of stupidty..

I largely boycoot all Hollywood films and have for years.. and havn't gone to a cinema now in ten years.. and refuse to go..

I only buy DVD's when they are at least 50% discounted.. or second hand..

Same goes with most music.. I never pay full price..

Vote with your wallet.. I did..

Because I am not there yet. Seriously, why don't you pitch your ideas at film producers. Don't complain, try to fix the problem. Better yet, produce a low budget film yourself.

Long live originality.

its unlike that. many unique video clips are made in bollywood for eg. munnabhai m.b.b.s, mom india, lagaan, hum dil de chuke sanam, black and so on.. to call some. its hollywood who has copied those video clips and recreated in thier way.
