I decided to join the early moring swimming club at my new school with my friend. I got teased at my old school for being chunky but hoped it would change here. My friend turned up late so I waited for her. We went through to the pool and went to the teacher(who's the P.E. teacher at our school) everyone else was SKINNY (including the teacher) and she immediately put my skinny friend who is better than me at EVERYTHING except for swimming in the fast lane and me in the medium. I'd been before and know that I belong in the fast lane and overtake people in there. So I decided to show her that even though I'm bad at most sports I CAN SWIM! So I swam lengths, overtaking as I went 'cos that's what your meant to do. After the 8th length, she tapped me on the head asking what I was playing at. I had missed the instructions waiting for my friend- we were meant to wait after every length for 30 seconds. I can swim 192 length without stopping!

Carrying on from the story: So I did what you were meant to do for the rest and got out with everyone. Then the teacher got really matey with my friend an d chatted to her all the way on the coach back to school and then spotted her at lunch and chatted to her. Giving me the evil eye or blank looks whenever I smile at her or happen to catch her eye. Now in P.E. she never chooses me for ANYTHING and just completely blanks me. I do try hard and act cheerful but she
just gives me nasty looks. I try not to care but inside I do 'cos I feel like someone's told me I'm rubbish at the only thing I'm good at. Sorry, it's not really to do with swimming but I need help!

The thing is you're new, therefore the teacher doesn't know you very well yet. Once you get settled into the new school and get used to the gym teacher you'll get to know each other better and become more acquainted which will lead to more improvements in practice.

With time your situation should settle down and your teacher/coach should have more optimism in you to go in the faster lanes for practice.

I would go to your PE teacher first and have a talk with her about your abilities and that you deserve a chance to prove them, ask for a private meeting after school with her, have yourself collected and already have the points you want to talk about. Use facts, numbers and time from your old school to let her know you are better then she is giving you credit for. Don't just go in their whining about "unfairness" If she ignores you go to your parents and let them know. The more adult like you sound she better she will listen, whining about weight and her picking on you will not get you anywhere. Good Luck

Just relax and be yourself. Do the things you like to do. Your appearance will not bother anyone that is worth being with, like your friend. The teacher should/will help you if you need it.

Excuse me? What is your problem? You seem to have done well at the pool-there seems to be no cause for paranoia here. You should be proud of yourself!-Swimming Steve
