Hi Alex,
My Sony lets me select 2 hours, four hours or six hours on a single layer DVD.
I can tell you that on six hours there is a marked degradation of the picture. I will not use it in the six hour mode anymore.

DVD-RAM (4GB) can record up to 12 hours, or you can use DVD-R (4GB) discs can record up to 6 hours. Cheers!

Depends on the format and quality.You can record more video of lower quality, or less,with high quality

I think altogether about 120 shows, it doesnt matter how long they are. That's what mine is but I dont exactly know what type it is.
