Here in Britain we get lots of American TV shows and I am just curious to know whether or not you get any British programmes (not American versions of British shows though) and if so what shows do you get and what do you think of them??

There is a BBC channel on Comcast channels, plus there are some occasional shows on our Public Broadcast Service channel. They're normally older shows with a different humor.

Dr. Who is British right? I really like that show.

We do get a few, but they are all on cable, and I would venture to say that the general public does not watch them. My friend is married to a British guy, so I am occassionally exposed to some British television, but if not for him, I doubt I would know of any British TV other than The Office, Whose Line is it Anyway and movies such as Monty Python. The Office and Whose Line both have American versions now, but that is because of the popularity that the shows already had here, and I loved watching the British version of The Office before the American version was created. My mom watches Mr. Bean and other similiar shows, but as she grew up in Europe (France, Brussels, Germany) I wouldn't describe her sense of humor as typically American. So, I guess what I am saying is that although British shows are certainly available on cable TV, it has not reached mainstream America.

I have seen many British TV shows. Some of my favorites are As Time Goes By, Doctor Who (old and new), Hex, The Young Ones, Monty Python, MI5, Keeping Up Appearances, My Hero, and Creature Comforts. I like British shows generally, as I tend to enjoy the humor more than most American shows. I also like that generally the shows are not as gratuitously violent as American shows.

We have a British Channel called BBC America. I have seen "Last of the Summer Wine" and "Eastenders", I think that's it though. Honestly, all of the shows look like they were made for like $2 and in the 90's or something. They are kind of cute but I really have to pay attention to understand the strong accents. The soaps are pretty good but I'm not a big fan of the comedies.

Public broadcast used to have UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS, which
I totally LOVED so very much!!!
I know that was like 30 yrs ago, but that's the kind of series I would watch.
Do you remember a series from Austrailia called PRISONER: CELL BLOCK C, I think it was.
It wasn't on PBS, but I remember watching that as well.
The book NO ANGEL and the two sequals about the Lytton pub.
company, fiction, were excellent and if anyone could do justice to
the novels, it would make such an EXCELLENT series in the spirit up UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS.
I wish I had the means to get UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS on DVD
so that I could see it again......
I would go out of my way to see any really good dramas from the UK!!! :-)
And I have LOVED any GOOD generational family saga based in
England.
Being a Beatle fan and having British roots in my family - ;-) -- I have always enjoyed EVERYTHING British....

We have gotten a couple of your shows- the one that comes to mind is "Keeping Up Appearances". Very funny!
Due the American shows you get, include "Watch Over Me"
and N.C.I.S? Or maybe some older ones, such as The A Team
or Knight Rider? How about Magnum PI? Mike Hammer? Those were my favorite!

I'm a Brit living in the US and we have BBC America here but unless you are an avid of "Cash in the Attic" it's not worth watching....Dr Who seems to be popular over here though! You can usually find re-runs of Ab Fab, Eastenders from 1995 and Benny Hill marathons LOL
