To answer your first question - threre are 9 square feet in one square yard.
However, concrete is measured in cubic yards, not square feet. The formula for cubic measurement is length x width x depth with all values in the same units. One cubic yead of concrete is the amount of concrete needed to fill a cube - or box - three feet wide, three feet long and three feet high..
Please check my numbers but ..... 553 divide by 9 = 61.5 square yards. 3.5 " is about 1/10 of a yard. Therefore, you should need about 6 to 6.25 cubic yards of concrete.

One cubic yard at 3 1/2 inches deep will fill 93 sq. ft. Divide 553 sq. ft. by 93 and you get 5.9 cubic yards of concrete. Or 6 yards to make it easy.

3 1/2 inches is .292 feet.
553 sq ft X .292 ft = 161.476 cu ft
27 cu ft in a cu yd. 3 X 3 X 3 = 27
161.476 / 27 = 5.981 cu yd
That number is too exact. It doesn't allow for any waste or any margin of error in the depth of your slab. Order at least 6 yds of concrete and 6.1 or 6.2 would make me more comfortable.
There is nothing like pouring 6 yards of concrete only to find yourself a shove short.
I'm a Handyman, I do these sort of estimates all the time...
Good luck on your project.

Concrete is measured by the Cubic Yard. The formula is Length X Width X Height
553' X 0.292' = 161.2916 cubic feet divide by 27 (3x3x3) to get cubic yards = 5.97cubic yards Aprox 6 cubic yards
This is an estimate, order a bit more than you think you will need

Your forms will probably not be uniformly 3½" deep. Make sure you order enough extra so that you don't run short. You might need 6½ cubic yards of concrete.
