I can't believe that they have Killed off Carson!

I loved that little Scottish Dude! He was always so Jolly and really cute!

Why do they keep killing the doctors off? First Janet in SG-1 and now Carson!

They Can't Keep doing this to us Sad Stargate Fans!

Yes, it's quite sad. I was more attached to Janet than Carson but he's still pretty great.

The way I see it, Sci-fi shows almost always have this flaw in them (aside from Battlestar Galactica and Lost as far as I've noticed) where they pretty much guarantee that everyone of importance will survive the episode, the season, etc. Most dramas don't limit themselves to this so it's one of those things that sets them (sci-fi) apart from the other shows.

While it's great for fans to know they'll always be there it also makes the show too predictable and doesn't let the writers work on that theme: loss. They then have to make a decision to off someone to explore new things (ex: heroes pt. 2) but who can they choose?

If one of the stars is cut you may lose viewers (ex: Meridian and season 6 of SG-1 after Daniel died) so then you go to the supporting cast, someone who is integral to the show but not someone who everyone associates with it. Thus the doctors, important but not even included in the credits (well, Beckett was but only for one season), are killed off for their emotional attachment to the group but otherwise 'unimportant' roles.
