Trust me.... this works. take a good size dollop of Desitin and mix it in your palm with a 4-5 drops of baby oil. Mix it in your palm and coat his rash and his entire diaper area thoroughly. Desitin is so thick and sticky that appylying it alone to a bad rash is painful to the child. The baby oil emulsifies the ointment and will allow you to protect him without hurting him.

If your son were older and the weather was warmer, I suggest that you let him go bare bottom because fresh air helps keep the skin dry. I once babysat a boy who got a terrible diaper rash because it was winter and his mother was bundled up to keep him warm and his wet diapers weren't being changed as often as they had been. His penis, scrotum, belly and behind were all red and felt warm to the touch. When I tried to apply Desitin to the rashy area. the the poor boy winced and almost cried. Thats is when I tried mixing the Desitin with the baby oil and it worked wonderfully.

Please try the mixture of baby oil and Desitin, keep his diapers fresh and I'll bet that your little boy will be all smiles in 2-3 days :) Good luck !!

My daughter also had a rash similar to this when she was five months old. I asked the dr. about it and he thought it looked like a dry skin rash. Obviously you know that if it concerns you you should ask the dr., so I won't tell you to do that. Baby Aveeno worked really well for my baby. I applied it two times a day and cut back on her baths (only give them once every other day). Also, in the bath, let him play first, then soap up, rinse, and get out. No playing in the soapy water. I rinsed my girl with fresh water from the tap instead of the soapy watery. Hope this helps! By the way, her rash never came back!

The treatment will depend on what type of rash it is. all rashes aren't the same so a doctor should take a look at it. In the mean time if it's itchy and irritates your baby spread some "witch doctor" toner on it. It contains witch hazel and is very good for soothing and relieving rashes. Get it a your local pharmacy or cosmetic shop.

You can use lotion, or vasoline would be a better bet. It kinda sounds like a food allergy rash to me, so try to think of anything new you have fed him in the last day to eliminate that as a possibility. It could also be eczema in which case the above said works for that too.

You have to be careful when it comes to rashes - go see the doctor to make sure it's nothing serious.
