Here's what I found on him..."He made his major network television debut on The David Letterman Show in 1987. Following an appearance on HBO's 13th Annual Young Comedians in 1990, he was spotted by Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels. An SNL cast member for four seasons, Rob has moved on to a successful feature film career." Hope it helps.

We don't get SNL in Australia (at least not on free to air TV) but I saw Rob Schneider once on Seinfeld, where he played Elaine's hearing impaired co-worker. I thought it was a funny performance. Unfortunately for Rob, the only movies he ever gets are complete turkeys, so it's difficult to tell if he has any real talent.

It has to do with the Joe Piscipo paradigm.

A little used theory that if you spend a few seasons playing pedestrian roles on SNL, and hang out with some funny people, you end up with a moderately successful career of your own.

I make no judgment about Rob and his talent (or lack of).

SNL and he is friends with Adam Sandler who usually has the same actors play the meaningless characters in his movies.

He became famous on the back of our country's taste for the stupid, that they have been nurturing for some time now. The irony of jackburton's post is that Piscopo's career ended up on a health club commercial, nowhere near comedy.

I think he is very funny. He was very funny on Saturday Night Live. Thats how he became famous. Face it, when you are on SNL, you have the chance to get very famous. And he did.

Four words: "You can do it!", from the Waterboy. It made him a regular in Happy Madison films.

Of course he started out in SNL.
