My dark shirts always come out of the washer with a layer of lint on them. We hang dry them so they will not shrink up. The washer is about 8 years old. I am thinking I should get a new washer with a lint filter possibly. Thanks for trying to help

The lint is basically pieces of fabric, if you wash your shirts with some other clothing, is very likely the other clothing is made of a fabric that has no consistency and disintegrates easily, maybe the fabric of your shirts it's not very good either, also maybe you let your clothes too much time in the washer. lint filter is for DRYERS not for washers

Check your manual, you may have a lint filter now and it's full of "stuff"... most have them... well, here in my part of the world anyhow...
