Not all frequent library visitors are oddball, but the library if definitely a place where oddballs can be found. Odd characters are often aware of their own oddness. And they know that they won't be openly accepted by most people. So they find a hobby, such as reading, where they don't need people to accept them in order to enjoy themselves. I've also found that odd people tend to be pretty intelligent and would thus gravitate towards libraries to feed their brains.

I'm not odd - but I was a librarian for many years. I hate to admit it but libraries do get more than their fair share of odd characters, like the poor old dear who use to insist on using a fried egg or piece of bacon as a book mark. Or the man who would come in 5 minutes before closing time and give us a very detailed description of each notice up in the post office, bank, newagents etc etc. But as that old adage goes listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

You mean why does a cheerleader-type like you find people in the libraries odd? That's because they do not play american football.

you sound like a bit of an odd character yourself from your choice of words. I think you know why.

They LOVE books. It is quieter than a mall, slower-paced than the the bar scene and less threatening than any other public place.
