this is like the fourth time he's had them today, and he figures he's suffering, lol. Any thought on how to get rid of them? My daughter never got them like he does, and when she did, she thought they were funny!
I know it's just hiccoughs, but he's shrieking constantly when he has them, it's driving me nuts! Thanks!

My twins had the hiccups constantly and we ended up using Gripe Water to combat them -- Gripe Water is a homeopathic remedy used for hiccups, gas, general fussiness, and so on, and contains ginger and fennel. For us, it really worked with the hiccups, and relief was almost instantaneous. There are several brands to be had but the one I'd heard about the most, and therefore the one we used, is called "Baby Bliss" -- the company makes a couple of things for babies and pregnant women, and I've seen it sold in stores like Buy Buy Baby, but I've never seen it in a brick and mortar drugstore. I ordered it online, through amazon.com and through one or two pregnancy/baby sites. I've never found anything else that does the trick like Gripe Water.

Before trying that, however, I would try a pacifier -- according to the NICU nurses and neonatologists, the act of sucking often causes hiccups to subside. That said, I didn't find it did much....but, you never know. My twins were never interested in a pacifier on any level, so maybe they just weren't really sucking on it "well enough" or something.

PS Especially since you're not a first time mom, I'm guessing that you already know that giving milk to a 3 month old is a bad idea, and that giving peanut butter to a 3 month old is a scary thought!!!! So, you know, you already know NOT to do those things, but when I saw them in the answers I had to say something!!

Good luck.

I don't care what the guy up there said, DON'T give him peanut butter. Don't give an infant peanut butter at all! A child shouldn't have anything peanut related until they're at least two, due to the fact that they become very susceptible to peanut allergies.

Personally, when my little girl gets them, I try to give her a bottle to drink from, but if that doesn't work, I just sit and gently rub her chest. It doesn't get rid of the hiccups, but she calms down a lot.

What I always did was nurse my boys when they got the hiccups. They would only feed for a couple of minutes and the hiccups would be gone.

Sprinkle a LITTLE bit of sugar on his tongue -- he will suck like crazy and stop. I used this method on all of my kids and grandkids.
