London Dungeon (creepy fun), Cambridge (great restaurants), Nottingham (beautiful parks, pretty cool "Robin Hood" legends tour, & lace shops), Piccadilly Circus in London (shopping), Legoland Windsor and Windsor Castle, Great Yarmouth (arcades).
Banham Zoo (in Norwich) was a fun afternoon and Thetford Priory was interesting. Duxford Air Museum was worth the trip (just south of Cambridge).
Mind you, I haven't been in 15 years...but those were our favorite places.

I like visiting football grounds in the UK on a game day. Going to a match gives me a good look at a definite non-touristy element of the UK, and I've often met folks at a pub before a game and learned a great deal about the areas surrounding a stadium along with having a pretty fun time. I liked Highbury (now closed) and Loftus Road in London (very intimate). West Ham is a fun trip, but I also try to get to the lower division stadiums as well.
While you won't get a ticket to Man U v. Arsenal, you can usually find a match to attend nearly any week you are in the UK

America doesnt have a lot of really old cultural artifacts, so the usual tourist suspects are the Tower of London, London Bridge, Royal Armory, Stonehenge, Buckingham, Kensington, Globe Theater, Knightsbridge, and of course the obligatory shopping trip to Carnaby Street.

Kensington Gardens. Of all the tourist attractions I saw, nothing was better than spending a warm morning by the pond in Kensington Gardens.

I've never been to the UK, but the places I'd most want to see are the Globe Theatre and Stonehenge ... on my way to the Isle of Bute to visit relatives in Scotland.

For me it's things like the Tower of London, and Leeds Castle. Things that are old. Nothing quite like that in the USA.
