Build inbound links to your website.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

Why? Unless you have a chain of cafes and are trying to build the brand name.
If your just trying to increase your customer base you might do better to concentrate on your local market. Maybe take your speciality Sausage Sandwich to the local building sites or onto the streets during busy periods. You don't say if you're based in a busy town, tourist location or on an industrial estate, or if your cafe is hidden away, each has a different type of customer and requires a different approach. Discount vouchers or the offer of a free drink can also be a good incentives to trial somewhere new.
You could use the Internet to allow busy businesses or regular customers to order on-line for delivery or collection. Also like the idea of a web cam for the cafe. You could even focus on the one element within the cafe - the food being cooked for instance. You might even be able to use this to get local press coverage.

Here's an idea, why not have a webcam outside the cafe, and on the web page were the webcam picture is displayed, have pictures of the cafe and pictures of the meals you serve. This is a 2 pronged advertisement, you list the website with webcam info, list the website for people looking for information on the area where the cafe is located. It shouldn't cost a lot, would think £200 would do the trick, lot less if you got a mate who's a bit handy with computers and creating web pages? See link for sample of what I mean.

If you have a website - then its promotion to get traffic to it.
If you dont then that probably your starting point - lots companies will build you one (including me)
Re promotion - thru stuff like google adwords, listing on sites - local business directories or town council sites or english tourist boards kinda stuff.
Re traffic build - maybe a new weekly "cut out and spend" voucher (buy two get one free type voucher), or invite-a-friend. Re links ask suppliers if they would link to you and you can link to them. Hope that helps.

do not hire a three hundred dollar advertisment .you need to research the flyer industry and use the knowledge gained through the work to slip under the carpet for your strategic advertisment
