Windows Vista needs pixel shader 2.0 for the areo thingy, and the Advent 8109 is Vista Home Premium capable which means the laptop has pixel shader 2.0
As for games, if the requirements on the box meets what the laptop has got, there shouldn't be any reason why the game wont work fine.
I play Rise of Nations on my laptop (also an Advent 8109) and it gets up to 30 frames per second.
The graphics card is: Intel 943GML with 128MB sharded memory.

I wouls stay away from any advent if I was you. They are made by Packard Bell exclusively for Dixons/Currys/PC World. Packard Bell are notoriously unreliable and come with alsorts of rubbish that you don't need. Thats probably what makes them unreliable. I have had 2 packard bells and would never buy one again no matter what the spec or price.
Buy an Acer or HP. make sure you ask in the shop if it will play the games you mentioned. If they say yes and it doesn't then you can take it back. Bear in mind that the best graphics card that intel makes is the 950GMA which is the only one that intel recommend for vista. If you buy an Acer you get up tp 224mb which is more than most other laptops of 128mb. Dedicated graphics card will be best but you will cost you. Hope this helps. Have a look at www.ebuyer.co.uk

Easily put…maybe but not very well, unless I’m wrong it uses integrated graphics which may struggle through The Sims and B&W with stuttering and RT3.
Your budget seems low and you’re not really going to find a good gaming laptop for £300. However, don’t believe the myth that you’ll have to fork out 3 grand for a good laptop and laptops aren’t built to game, as they are, you can find a good gaming laptop from £600 onwards, obviously the more you pay the better the play.
I spent a £1000 on my laptop and it wasn’t far from the desktop equivalent , packing a Nvidia 6600 it plays from Battlefield 2, Fear, and anything else I’ve pushed it to play, and they’re more recent games.
The best website I’ve found in recent times is http://www.whatlaptop.co.uk/forums/default.aspx sign up free for the forum, use the template for seeking a laptop which covers budget use et cetera and there are many people who will advise the best solution, it is also good for niggly little problems that you don’t feel need a call on the warranty, they’ve helped me numerous times.
I’d definitely repeat the comment to stay away from PC World/Comet et cetera, they’ll try to con you into buying anything.
I’ve had two laptops, first one was a Samsung, died after eight months, design fault, although Samsung never admitted it, a lot of other people experienced the exact same fault, my more recent laptop is going fine into its second year, with a three year warranty, mine is a Evesham C10 Voyager, and I’ve had fantastic after care from them.

You might be OK playing some low power games, but to put it simply; laptops are not designed for gaming, even in these days, if you must use a laptop, consider a custom built one, though this may cost you in excess of £3,000.
