I would say that would be called a terrarium, or if you want to sound really smart, a self contained miniature eco-system.

Aquariums and terrariums are containers for plants and fish. Aquatic horticulture is the growing of under water plants. RScott

Since I was a boy, it has been called a terrarium. Unless the plants are underwater, then it's called an aquarium.

Hydroponics is the term for the system where plants are grown with their roots immersed in a solution of nutrients instead of in the ground. The non-technical name is soil-less culture.
