my friend has a 6 month old son and recently when he has been feeding (breast feeding) he will almost have like a seizure. he just shakes for 10-15 seconds and his eyes roll and he doesn't respond to noise or movement back but then comes out of it and is fine. the doctor says its acid reflux but she is worried that it i more serious. has anyone ever heard of this before?

That is not acid reflux. There is something wrong there. It sounds like the baby is having a seizure. Some babies may stop and rest in between nursing and even fall asleep but what you're describing sounds like a seizure.

I would take the baby to ER. How frequently does this happen? If daily, I would be very concerned indeed. It's not acid reflux!! Where do you get these doctors??

Did your friend have a difficult birth? If her canal was too tight the baby might have suffered in passing and not gotten enough oxygen or who knows what else...lots of reasons it might have happened (she didn't drop the baby did she?) so don't wait as it coudl get worse and the baby choke while feeding.

I'm not a doctor but I do know about acid reflux. And acid reflux does not cause anyone to go into a seizure state where their eyes roll back in their heads. There's definitely going on here other than acid reflux. I'd get a second opinion from a different pediatrician.

A little girl that attended Early Intervention with my youngest daughter had a similar problem...she would even stop breathing during the feeding. I can't remember exactly what they said it was but I do know that they put her on a commercial thickener(adding cereal did not work) like simply thick(a little pricy and can only be found at certain pharmacies) or thick it(can be purchased through any pharmacy including walmart) and that seemed to help.....BUT first this needs to be discussed with a doctor. If the first doctor is not going to listen to her then it is time to find another doctor.

That doesn't sound as if he is just to be on the safe side i would get a second opinion from another doctor. A non responsive baby is not normal acid reflux or no acid reflux.

Babies do all kinds of weird things but she really needs to get a second or third opinion if she has to! Seizures are not to be taken lightly so she really needs to address this situation before it possibly turning into something more serious!!

Well, not to scare you, but that does NOT sound like acid reflux.

My (adopted) little brother was born addicted to speed, and he used to do that. Shake and spasm for a good 10 - 15 seconds and then relax.

She should have him checked out.

I agree with everyone else answering, she needs to take the baby to another doctor.
I had to do that with my daughter, because her doc didn't listen to what I was saying and refused to do any testing on my daughter to find out the cause of her breathing problems.
Not all doctors are good doctors.

It sounds like something a little more serious then what the doctor told her. I would go for another opinion.

I would find another doctor. My nephew has acid reflux and he has never done this. I think you have every right to be worried here.

My daughter had terrible reflux her whole first year but she never did anything like that - she just couldn't keep liquids down. Maybe your friend better get a 2nd opinion.
