All the kids in the neighborhood are aware there is a haunted house on nightmare lane BUT no one has ever had the guts to go by the house, then one day these 5 kids are dared to enter to find a treasure

I personally can't imagine a horror plot that would be appropriate for kids of that age.
But, if you are determined, something haunted is always fun. If there are caves or old mines in your area, or a ghost town, or an old ship, those setting are good for such stories. But, be VERY careful if you enter caves or mine shafts, as explosive methane gas can be present, as well as sleeping animals.
Maybe there really is a haunted house or building in your area, and the kids could explore why it's haunted, then find out it was an old man doing special effects to scare strangers away from his money, which he has hidden in the basement and amounts to a fortune. Kind of a Scooby Doo-type of thing.
