In my experience, pay is not commensurate to performance. What I mean is, enticing people with "bonus', raises, high salary, etc..." is not going to make them perform any better.

I like to keep a close knit group and make it a fun place to show up. If you do give a bonus, don't do it in front of the company, do it in private. People hate seeing others get praised and love it when they feel you are paying special attention to them.

Depending on what they are absent for sickness like flu... pay for flu shots. If babysitting is a problem look for an alternative way for productivity such as having a day care there. Here we done have too many people out sick...

You should have a policy about absenteeism. If the employees are not living up to the rules, you need to release them from employment.

Bonuses for better attendance. But be sensible about structuring them; people do get sick, and have emergencies which need to be dealt with.
