i have bitten my nails for AT LEAST 7 years. I have used this special type of nail polish that makes you nails taste really gross. This helps a lot but as soon as my nails grow in... i bite them down again. i bite them so much its actually painful. One time i had my nails long and and kept painting my nails with the special nail polish for 2 MONTHS afterwards and i actually bit through the nail polish in my sleep and couldn't even taste the nail polish!!! i always say i'll go on a spa day if i stop but i never can stop. HELP!!!

Hi..

That's a serious problem you have here! If special nail polish is'nt working, maybe you need to try soap..
Scratch on a bar of soap till your feel it stuck under your nails.. this tastes really nasty.. but make sure you don't touch your eyes!
You can also put petrolium jelly on your nails & fingertips.. it does'nt taste bad but it makes you mouth really sticky..
Moreover, try visiting a therapist, biting your nails can be caused by stress. Make sure you get rid of the cause before the habit.

Best of Luck =)

I've bitten my nails all my life, ever since I can remember, and there was only one thing that got me to stop.

My (then) fiancee, told me that it would mean so much to her if I could have beautiful, well manicured nails for our wedding foto's.

Damn, how unfair was that... ;-p

But it worked, because it really make me realize just how disappointed *I* would be not being able to have beautiful nails for such an important photograph in my life and although, for quite sometime afterwards, I would find my fingers wondering into my mouth...I would soon catch myself.

The point is that, in that one moment, my fiancee figured out a way to completely reverse my concept of pleasure and pain and made it go from feeling too painful to have to quit to feeling too *NOT* to quit so that I can take that picture properly.

You need to find some motivation, some leverage, that makes more painful for you to *not* stop doing it than it does to keep doing it. You have to find a way to make it so much more important than just "because I should"...

You could do what my Grandad used to tell me to do.
Dip me nails in Horse Manure

Or you could try the way that I actually gave up biting my nails.
Choose one of your nails and just don't bite that one, once it has grown and you see how nice it looks grow another.

If it breaks, don't chew it off, trim it up, file it down and make it look respectable. Once you have a few nails and see how nice they look you will soon want to stop biting the rest

hope this helps

keep using nail polish or lemon juice on your nails, and file them often, so that there is less temptation to chew.
