Once you quit breastfeeding, it should only take you a month before you get your period again. Think of it this way: Breastfeeding was just like still being pregnant- that was what your body was being tricked into thinking due to your hormones. Now that you've stopped, those hormones have stopped. Now your period will start coming at their normal 28 day intervals (if you're normal, that is).

I got my period back after 3 months. But that's not really relevant. It can vary greatly. If you are exclusively breastfeeding, it is completely normal to go at LEAST 6 months without a period. The fact that your doctor is worried concerns me. Does your doctor know that you're nursing? If so, you should ask him/her to research "lactation ammenorea" (it means lack of periods due to breastfeeding). Enjoy the time without your monthly "friend"!

I got my period back *while* I was breastfeeding. I think it came back when my baby was 6 months old. She's 20 months old, I'm still breastfeeding her and I have normal periods every month like clockwork.

It all depends on the person, I guess.

My sister didn't get her period for over four months after she stopped breastfeeding. I think it's different for everyone, though.

Any chance you're pregnant again? It happened to my best friend. She was actually STILL breastfeeding when she got pregnant again.

You need to look at your nutritional status, if you are undernourished or severely lacking in certain nutrients, calories, or even body fat you will not menstruate.
